Channel Data

Channel Data

Channels like Certificates, Enrollments, and Terms relate to user data rather than course content. Assessments and Glossary channel entries generate visible pieces of content within the course.

Certificates

An automatically generated record of individual certificates generated. Displays the date, course, term, and user. Each certificate instance has a unique chain of numbers and letters. This can generally be ignored, but can be useful in troubleshooting user support issues.

Single entry for a certificate in Admin UI; just a series of numbers, a name, and date.

Detailed view of a certificate gives details about the course and the term.

Enrollments

An automatically generated record of Individual enrollments. Displays user, course, term, and completion status. Each enrollment instance has a unique chain of numbers and letters. This can generally be ignored, but can be useful in troubleshooting user support issues.

Single line of enrollment entry shows series of numbers, name, and date.

Detailed view of enrollment shows term and other data.

Terms

Term entities represent ranges of time. These can have any name and can be for any length of time. In courses that are re-taken on a semester or annual basis, creating new terms for each allows for differentiation in completions/completion certificates. (Without a new term, a user who completed the course once, would only be able to review it; the initial certificate would not be overwritten.)

Admin UI Term entry field.

For a course that doesn’t require students to retake it at intervals, you can simply create a single term with a generic name (like “NSO” or “Continuing Ed”) that will make sense when a user views it on the Dashboard and on their Completion Certificate. A client might like to create a new term following significant course updates or revisions so that they can easily compare and separate user data in analytic reports.

Assessments

Create and manage Assessment entries for Courses. Set parameters and define content for each assessment, including: Title, Instructions, Percentage to Pass, Assessment Success Message, and Attempts allowed. You can also toggle whether the questions are randomized and whether the feedback is provided to the user in real time (after each question), after the user has submitted, or not at all.

🎗️Remember, in your Course Settings, you can choose if you want the user to be able to download a copy of their Assessment responses from the Dashboard.

Glossary

Entries in the Glossary channel feed course glossaries. They are text-based constructions of words and definitions. You can apply categories to relate words to specific courses within your portfolio. Entries can have more than one association.
